Get ready for your wellness day, understand your screening benefit!
As we approach the Society wellness days, get to know your screening benefit. Many chronic conditions, when diagnosed and treated before you 'feel' the effects of the condition, can be properly managed and prevented from progressing or worsening. Once you are diagnosed with a chronic condition, don't forget to register it as soon as possible.
When you register your condition and it meets the benefit entry criteria, certain diagnostic tests, consultations, and medication will be paid out of a dedicated benefit, and not from your day-to-day benefits. Check the Society website www.bemas.co.za or your Benefit Brochure to see which chronic conditions we will consider for funding. The process is very simple: to register your condition, you and your doctor just need to submit a new Chronic Illness Benefit application form or call the Society.
Screening Benefits
- Screening tests consisting of:
- Blood glucose
- Blood pressure
- Cholesterol
- Body mass index
Must use a Discovery Wellness Network provider.
Chronic Illness Benefit:
Covers approved medicine for conditions where ongoing management is required.
- Cover for a list of 27 conditions called the Prescribed Minimum Benefit (PMB) Chronic Disease List conditions.
- You have to apply by sending us an application form.
- You and your doctor need to complete the form.
- We will tell you whether we have approved cover or not.
- If approved, we fund claims for your chronic condition from this benefit.
